WEDNESDAY PRESS CONFERENCE IN OLYMPIA:
People to Speak Out Against Harsh, Unsustainable Senate Republican Budget that Would Shred the Social Safety Net
People affected by the proposed cuts and advocates for low income families will call on legislators to reject the severe cuts proposed in the Zarelli Senate budget
Olympia -- People directly affected by deep proposed funding cuts to critical safety net services , as well as advocates for low income families and communities, will gather in Olympia tomorrow morning to tell their stories and call on legislators to reject the harsh Senate Republican budget that would be a disaster for thousands of struggling families across Washington State.
Speakers who rely on Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, Housing and Essential Needs, and Disability Lifeline assistance for physically or mentally disabled people who are unable to work, Working Connections child care, and other critical services will be in attendance.
Speakers will point out that a budget that cuts such essential services endangers our most vulnerable individuals and families, and also hurts communities' economic recovery by increasing the stress on emergency rooms, homeless shelters, food banks, and law enforcement services that are already financially strained.
The Senate Republican budget continues to protect tax breaks for Wall Street banks and other special interests while slashing funding for critical state services.
